Four
distraction burglaries were reported across Dorset on Thursday 15th May
2008. These occurred in Crossways, Poole and two in Wareham, Northmoor
Way and Old Forge Close Lytchett Matravers. Three more have since been
reported. Charlton Mead Charlton Marshall Blandford, High Street
Shapwick and Hurn Way Christchurch all on the 17th.
Two men have been involved in each incident and the victims have
described them as being 25 - 30 years old and having an Irish or
Scottish accent.
One of the men distracted the occupants by stating that they were from a
water company and that the water supply was contaminated/leaking down
the road whilst the other man went to separate parts of the house and
stole property.
A witness did notice a grey saloon, possibly a Ford at one of the
Wareham crimes.
If you suspect anyone calling at your home with the excuse there is a
leak or contamination please dial 999 immediately.

During
the past two nights attempts made to steal from cashpoint machines
around the county by two, or possibly three males using an electric or
petrol driven angle grinder to cut into the machines.
On the first occasion they were successful in obtaining an amount of
cash, but on the second they were disturbed by a member of the public
and made good their escape.
These males are said to have been wearing hooded tops and balaclavas on
their faces and on both occasions they made off in a dark coloured Audi
vehicle registration similar to YR06GJE.
This vehicle is believed to have also been connected to two other
similar incidents recently, one an armed robbery in Poole at the
beginning of the week and a similar ATM attack which occurred in
Hampshire last Monday. On these previous occasions it is thought the
vehicle may have been displaying a set of false number plates.
For the past two nights members of the public have been disturbed by the
level of noise created by the angle grinder and reported the incidents
promptly to Police.
The Dorset Police are seeking your assistance in tracing this vehicle
and its occupants and urge anyone with information or who may hear
suspicious noises in the early hours to contact Police on 999
immediately quoting Crime Numbers 19933.
DO NOT APPROACH THESE PERSONS OR THEIR VEHICLE YOURSELF. Please advise
your friends and neighbours.
If you have any information regarding this message please call the
Dorset Police on 01202/01305 222222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800
